About the Artist
Michael J. Hone is a self-taught artist. His expertise consists of pen, ink and watercolor drawings using photographs and his own imagination and memory to render his works. His primary interests consist of drawing antique cars, junkyards and old buildings, Christmas cards, as well as accepting consignments from individuals to draw houses.
Originally, Michael drew for himself, and he was attracted to junkyard scenes because of the wealth of detail. Eventually, his art began to attract local attention, and he began drawing houses, boats, buildings and scenes in his home town.
In 1993, while taking an evening watercolor class at the local high school adult education program, his teacher was so impressed with his talent that she referred him to a local author who was anticipating writing a children’s book and needed an illustrator for it. The book is named, “Jack’s Amazing Magic Bed” and is illustrated in a whimsical fashion telling the story of a boy whose hospital bed drives like a car taking him throughout the New York City area.
A member of the Old Greenwich Art Society, Mr. Hone, has won several awards in graphics and watercolors. Additionally, his work was chosen to represent area artists at the Greenwich 350th anniversary art exhibit at the Hurlbutt Gallery at the Greenwich Library. He has exhibited his works in local galleries, banks and municipal buildings.
Mr. Hone has been commissioned to do many drawings of Greenwich buildings, private homes as well as art for children’s rooms and baby gifts.
Michael is married to his high school sweet heart, Lynne Hone and they live in Old Greenwich. They also own a log cabin on a lake in New York State where Michael has continued to pursue local points of interest to illustrate, including lake houses of weekenders and local residents.
